As a vet specialising 👩‍⚕️ in equine nutrition🐴, I recommend Boost instant to combat muscle fatigue in sport horses. I therefore advise administering Boost immediately after a short, intense effort, in preparation for a new effort, whether this is after a first show jumping course when two are completed in a day, after the first leg of an endurance race or during the first break of a trail ride.

Do you know the enemy of resistance to effort and muscular recovery? It’s lactate, produced by the cells during energy production in anaerobic mode, a rapid pathway activated during short, intense effort. The accumulation of lactate leads to what is known as muscle fatigue. To reduce its effects, you can neutralise lactate with sodium citrate or stimulate aerobic energy production pathways.

Carnitine plays a key role in directing the use of glucose towards the Krebs cycle, a cellular energy production pathway without lactate production. It also helps to transport fatty acids to the mitochondria, which convert them into energy, particularly for muscle cells, thereby promoting resistance to effort over medium to long periods.

Boost also encourages horses to drink, so they should always have access to clean water at room temperature.
