As a vet specialising 👩‍⚕️ in equine nutrition🐴, I recommend Imunovit as a supportive treatment for horses suffering from allergic dermatitis to insect bites , during the winter period (gatherings, passage of respiratory viruses), to improve the vaccination response.

Zinc is crucial to immunity because it boosts the ability of macrophages and neutrophils to phagocytose. It is essential for the proper functioning of superoxide dismutase, a key enzyme in the elimination of infectious agents absorbed by macrophages and neutrophils. In addition, zinc enables T lymphocytes to produce a range of components (IFNγ, IL-2, TNFα) that protect the body against bacterial and viral infections.

Vitamin C plays a role in collagen synthesis, which is essential for wound healing. It contributes to one of the first defence mechanisms by strengthening the skin barrier to prevent the invasion of pathogens. Vitamin C is also a key player in the immune system, helping to prevent respiratory infections such as rhinopneumonitis, equine influenza, EHV-2 rhinitis, equine viral arteritis, strangles and rhodococcosis.

Beta-1,3/1,6-glucans are natural polysaccharides derived from yeast cell walls and recognised by the immune system as warning signals. Once alerted, the immune system prepares for a rapid and appropriate response to infections. The efficacy and safety of beta-1,3/1,6-glucans, present in Imunovit, in improving immune function in top-level racehorses has been proven. These glucans optimise vaccination protocols against influenza, herpes viruses and fungal skin infections such as ringworm, although vaccination does not offer complete protection. For rhinopneumonia, vaccination is used to limit clinical signs and stop the spread of the virus. As well as causing major economic losses, these viral infections plunge horses and owners into deep distress.
